Land and Sea...with Funk

Friday was the last full day of camp and it was jam packed with fun (and still the humidity!). The day started with a French Toast breakfast for which Mr. Child was happy to be absent.

At the final flag raising, Henry provided the Trumpet call for Reveille, while the Troop thanked the staff for an amazing Friendship Fire.

In the morning, scouts completed their Merit Badge Classes, then moved on to a special lunch at the Archery Range, which we won in the Sequassen Bucks raffle. Then, after the final MB class it was off to Land and Sea games.

In the Land competitions, we made a good showing in the relay race, came in 1st in the Dizzy Bat race, and came in 3rd in Tug of War which included us beating a loaded team.

In the Sea competitions, we finished 2nd in Swamp the Scoutmaster, 1st or 2nd in Knot Underwater, 3rd in the Sandwich Relay, and a memorable performance by Mr, Renzi in the Scoutmaster Splash with an 8.95 - good enough for Second Place. All of the amazing participation and energy led us to 3rd Place overall in the Land and Sea games.

We finished our brass accompaniment for Flags for the week with our Brass Trio of Henry (Trumpet), Cam, and Simon (Trombones) providing a moving rendition of Reveille.

The day ended with a final campwide fire program. Our scouts entertained the crowd with an amazing performance of Uptown Funk (Bruno Mars). Cameron, Henry, and Simon filled out our Brass Trio while the rest of our scouts provided oustanding vocals. The crowd was singing along and gave a loud round of applause.

On Saturday, we packed up, mostly avoiding rain and stroms, and then headed to brunch and the closing ceremony. Troop 270 ended the week with several accolades, including Honor Scouts, Honor Patrol for Rocket Llamas, and Honor Troop Tier 1 for the troop,

The recognition was a testament to amazing planning by SPL Cameron, tremendous leadership by Cam and his ASPLs Henry and Simon, and finally the engagement and teamwork of the entire troop, all supported by our dedicated leaders, Mr. Child, Mr. Hoyack, Mr. McCoy, Mr. Linnetz, Mr. Blatter, and Mr. Renzi, along with Mr. Ladanyi and Mrs. Furrer. We were also supported by Mr. Cultier from Troop 770.

We finished the week with Roses and Thorns, sharing reflections and thanks for the positive and always looking to further improve our troop.

Thank you to Newtown Congregational Church, our leaders, and our parents, and all those in teh community who have supported us and made this week possible.
